Electric Scooter Troubleshooting Wizard

Problem: Motor Runs Constantly (Runaway Scooter)

First Step: Test Throttle and Speed Controller
Most of the time when an electric scooter's motor runs constantly it is due to a faulty speed controller. However on occasion it may also be caused by a faulty throttle or a short circuit in the throttle cable wires.
To test whether the problem is the throttle or the speed controller simply disconnect the throttle from the speed controller. The throttle to speed controller connector is usually located near the speed controller. If the motor stops running continually with the throttle disconnected then the throttle is faulty. If the motor still runs continually with the throttle disconnected then the speed controller is faulty. Replace the
faulty component and then retest the scooter.
