The Currie Phat Phantom and Phat-E electric scooters were introduced in 1997.
They were the first electric scooters ever made by Currie. These foundation
electric scooter models helped pioneer the electric scooter industry. The Phat Phantom and Phat-E electric scooters were the first electric
scooters on the market which were designed and suitable for adults to use. These
models were not without their faults however and they were prone to motor
overheating failure. The plastic rims also proved to be unsuitable for electric
scooters because they would crack or break after prolonged or heavy use. Currie
electric scooters are intentionally designed with common and interchangeable
parts which is rare in the electric scooter industry, or any industry for that
matter. The interchangeability of their parts makes them less disposable and
more likely to be repaired in the future due to the availability of parts. We
like to think of Currie electric scooters as the peoples electric scooter. All
of the parts used on the first model electric scooters which proved to be
reliable were carried onto the newer models. Today we see many of the exact same
parts and components that were used on these first model electric scooters used
on the latest model electric scooters such as the battery pack and case, battery
charger, battery charger port, wire connectors, power switch, fuse, brakes,
handlebars, chain, rear sprocket, plus numerous other identical and
interchangeable parts.
